Lesson 5 of 6 · Social search and brand discovery
Give each channel a job in your brand
What it is
Start with a real customer question and a truthful answer. Then choose a format that suits it. YouTube: a clear demonstration, walkthrough or explanation of how a service works. TikTok: one useful tip or a short answer with enough context to avoid unsafe advice. Instagram: finished-work photos, a short demonstration or a behind-the-scenes explanation, with permission from anyone shown. X: a concise answer or local update, with a useful next step when appropriate. Use the same recognisable business name and accurate service-area details. Link to your real website from the profile where supported. A video description or post can point to a relevant service page if that platform permits clickable links. Do not assume every caption link is clickable. Choose a sensible next step: read the full explanation, see the relevant service, or contact the business. Use tagged links and website analytics where available, while recording enquiries separately. Never publish customer addresses, faces or private job details without permission. For supporting checks, use our free social-share preview for your website link and free Google Business Profile category finder for genuine category research. Neither connects your social account to Search Console.
Why it matters
Consistent, useful content can help people recognise and trust a local business across several touchpoints. That is a practical brand-building benefit, not a guaranteed Google Maps ranking factor.
✓ Good example
The fictional plumbing business explains when to call a professional, uses an accurate Canton service description and links to the relevant service page. It does not manufacture a customer story.
✗ Common mistake
Keyword-stuffing every caption with towns you do not serve, buying engagement, copying other creators or claiming that likes automatically improve Maps rankings.
You pass when: You have drafted one useful topic, chosen two suitable formats and identified a truthful next step toward your business.
