Lesson 7 of 12 · Module 7 · Explain trade-offs

Write honest comparisons

What it is

Comparisons help shoppers choose; two-way or three-way formats cannot force AI inclusion. 1. Pick a real customer comparison and products solving similar needs. 2. Define consistent criteria first: capacity, weight, materials, compatibility, warranty, delivery and dated price. 3. Record a source/date for each value. Missing stays not verified; do not infer it. 4. Identify your own product and disclose ownership, sponsorship or affiliate interests. 5. Compare like with like. Do not contrast your current sale price with an outdated competitor list price without explanation. 6. Give fit and non-fit guidance for every option. Acknowledge when another product is more suitable. 7. Publish where relevant and maintain changing specs/prices. 8. Observe search, qualified visits and sales. A later citation is not proof this page caused it. Matrix: Product | Specification | Source/date | Best-fit customer | Limitation | Price/date. Use fictional products for course exercises. Your own commercial comparisons need independently verified facts and specialist review where appropriate.

✓ Good example

Fictional Daywalk, Trailbound and Citypack bags are compared on the same documented criteria, with different suitable use cases.

✗ Common mistake

Selecting only criteria where your product wins, inventing weaknesses or promising a three-way page guarantees AI placement.

You pass when: Your comparison has consistent criteria, dated sources, disclosure, limitations and a maintenance owner.
