Lesson 4 of 7 · Redirects

Use permanent (301) redirects, in one hop

What it is

A 301 redirect says a page has moved for good. A 302 says it's temporary. Chains of several redirects slow pages down.

Why it matters

301s pass the old page's value to the new one. Long chains waste time and can be dropped by crawlers.

✓ Good example

http://example.com goes straight to https://example.com in one 301.

✗ Common mistake

http → https → www → /home, four hops.

You pass when: Main pages reach their final address in one permanent redirect.
