Lesson 3 of 12 · Module 3 · Improve existing pages

Optimize products and collections

What it is

Product pages help evaluate one item. Collections help browse and compare a group. Choose one valuable page of each type first. 1. Save the current copy and dated baseline: impressions/clicks if available, orders, stock and promotions. Compare similar periods. 2. Product: accurate name; short summary; verified size/materials/compatibility; use cases and limitations; evidence references; current price, variants, stock, shipping and returns. 3. Collection: clear category heading, brief introduction, relevant grid, useful supported filters and selection guidance. Do not push products below a generic essay. 4. Review Search engine listing on the product/collection edit page. Titles and descriptions are suggestions; Google may rewrite them. Avoid keyword stuffing. Describe meaningful images for accessibility. 5. Keep successful URLs unless a change is justified. If changing a live handle, plan/test a redirect and update links. 6. Link guides to useful collections/products using descriptive labels. Avoid unrelated sitewide keyword links. 7. Inspect existing Product/Offer structured data before adding apps. This machine-readable information must match visible price, currency, stock and genuine reviews. Do not invent ratings. 8. Check live buying flow, mobile layout and broken links. Record before/after changes and a review date. Useful FAQs are for shoppers. Typical ecommerce stores should not expect Google FAQ rich results, which are limited to well-known authoritative government/health sites. Accurate Product markup can support eligibility, not guaranteed rich results or rankings.

Why it matters

Improve real purchase decisions while protecting working URLs and navigation. A page-audit score is not a Google metric. ✓ Good example

A fictional bag page replaces “Best bag ever” with verified capacity, dimensions, care and suitable trip types.

✗ Common mistake

Changing a successful handle solely to shorten it or adding conflicting markup from several apps.

You pass when: One product and collection have accurate copy, relevant links, purchase data and recorded technical checks. Keep before/after notes and follow-up dates.
