Lesson 1 of 6 · Social search and brand discovery

Your social content can be found on Google

What it is

Your website is not the only place a prospective customer can meet your business. A Google result can send someone to a YouTube video, an Instagram post, a TikTok clip or an X post. Google documents platform properties for Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube. Where available, you add each account or channel as its own Search Console property and verify ownership. Access is rolling out gradually. This is different from the December 2025 social-channel Insights experiment, which showed channels Google had associated with a website. The screenshot above is Google's example of that earlier experiment, not the current Add property screen. Sources: Platform properties and the original experiment.

Why it matters

Google discovery data can reveal useful content that your website report never showed. Search Console does not replace YouTube Studio or other platform analytics. It also does not count enquiries or sales.

✓ Good example

Fictional example: Maple Leaf Plumbing & Heating publishes a clear explanation of a dripping tap. People may find the video in Google before they visit the business website.

✗ Common mistake

Assuming that adding a social account improves its rankings, or that Search Console reports every social view. It measures performance; it does not buy reach or guarantee indexing.

You pass when: You can explain the difference between a website property, a social platform property and in-app social analytics.
