Research what customers really search
What it is
Keywords are the words people type into Google. Look for terms with clear intent to hire, like 'furnace repair near me', not just broad words like 'heating'.
Why it matters
Ranking for words nobody searches, or only students search, brings no calls.

Targeting 'emergency plumber Mesa' and 'water heater replacement cost'.
✗ Common mistake
Targeting 'hydronic thermodynamics' because it sounds expert.
