Lesson 1 of 5 · Images
Describe images with alt text
What it is
Alt text is a short description of an image, read aloud by screen readers and used by search engines. Describe what's in the photo in plain words.
Why it matters
It makes your site usable for blind visitors and helps your photos appear in image search.
✓ Good example
alt='Technician replacing a water heater in a garage'
✗ Common mistake
alt='image1' or a list of keywords.
You pass when: Meaningful images have short, accurate alt text; decorative ones have empty alt.
